Here’s One for Spring

Here’s our latest contribution to Conscious Alliance, a non-profit that trades posters for food at Concerts and Festivals. They are getting ready for a big summer season, making the rounds at all the big festivals and collecting tons of food for those in need. They asked us to help them out with a design for the Wakarusa Festival in Lawrence, Kansas. Last year’s food drive at Wakarusa raised over 3,000 pounds of food. This year’s years lineup includes The Flaming Lips, Emmylou Harris, and a ton of other acts. Get out this summer and see some live music – and if Conscious Alliance is at the show – bring some food to help the less fortunate and get some poster art. It’s a no-brainer.

These posters are up around town to promote the show and a few should be available for sale at the Boulder Theater the night of the show. Full image of the poster here–> (more…)
Secret Machines – In the Round

The last time the Secret Machines came through town they played a crazy set at the Fox. The guys brought their own stage – a monster circular structure fully equipped with sychronized lights and whole thing.. It was amazing. Equally amazing was the fact that the Fox was half full. One of those musical experiences that you can’t believe people are missing. Well you can probably tell by now that I happen to be a Secret Machines fan. These guys are the real deal.

College Football

Spending a lazy Saturday watching college football, and with Ohio State back at #1, I had a flashback to this poster. Last year we did three limited edition OSU prints for a friend of mine up in Columbus. Things were going smoothly until the National Championship game rolled around. Half the run had shipped in time to make it to the game, and I was actually working on printing the second half and watching the game at the same time. Needless to say, I pulled the plug at halftime, knowing that an OSU / Florida poser featuring OSU players and OSU colors was not making much sense about halfway through the second quarter. (more…)
Conscious Alliance – Green Festival

Conscious Alliance are doing something. These guys are on a mission to make things better in the world. Sure, thats what everyone wants, right? But these guys are actually DOING something. Making moves as they say. By trading posters for food at concerts, Conscious Alliance has collected and distributed over 500,000 pounds of relief for those who are in need. And from the looks of things – this is just the beginning.
The beautiful thing for artists and designers is it makes it easy to use our skills to help out. It feels good to help these guys out with designs – it is actually an honor.
The design above is for the Green Festival in Washington D.C.

We threw a little shin dig at White Hills right around the time we printed our 50th poster. Big Diffy put on a great show and copious amounts of PBR were consumed.

Spring Creek Bluegrass Band

I went to see Del McCoury at the Boulder Theater and these guys were the opening act. They really impressed me. The band are all excellent players and singers and they have a respect for the tradition of bluegrass. Great stage presence and amazing original songs. So I asked them if they needed some “graphical assistance” and this project was born. They are a young band so I crafted a poster that they could use for some time – based on an old broadsides style..
Spring Creek just became the only band to ever win the band competition at RockyGrass and Telluride Bluegrass Festival in the same year. Congrats guys!

We took a trip down to SXSW in Austin in March to man our booth at Flatstock 12. We brought these posters along to help promote flatstock and to trade with other poster artists. We got drunk and stumbled around Austin. We hung out with Jeff Holland.

Stephen Kellog & the Sixers Tour Poster
Posted in Posters on August 31, 2007| 1 Comment »
You couldn’t ask for nicer people to work with. These guys tour constantly – super hard working musicians and really humble and cool. Worked with Stephen on the new album art and it was a pleasure. He really cared and respected the process and we all know as designers that that is rare. Oh and this poster is on some super nice Wausau paper that is just saturated with color and perfect when the artwork has to be one color.
